Re-Working Old Pillows
Hi everyone! Do you have some pillows that you want to get rid of because you’re tired of them? Or maybe you want a new look but don’t want to spend the money for all new pillows? I thought I’d share a few easy things that I do to revitalize pillows to get a bit more use out of them and to just get a new look.
I bought this pillow at Ikea last year and wanted to spruce it up a bit. I thought about adding some red pom pom fringe and that looked cute but not quite right. So I tried some other ribbons that I had and found just the thing.
I used some fabric ribbon and fabric glue to outline the monogramming.
I didn’t want to take the time to miter the the corners so I just folded them under.
I like how the monogramming pops now!
I made a pillow out of an old sweater last January. It was super easy! Here’s how I did it - What To Do With An Old Sweater.
This year I added some white pom pom fringe. I just sewed it on the outside. And the best thing is that it’s easy to remove when I get tired of it and I can reuse the fringe!
Everything looks better with some pom pom fringe!
Here’s a pillow I found at the thrift store a few years ago. Very cute – but the bee had to go!
I added a little panel of toile that I sewed right over the bee part. I also added some buttons down the middle. This is a great way to get a whole new pillow and it doesn’t take much fabric to cover the front of an old pillow!
I hope you’ll look at your old pillows in a new way now. Look around and see what you have that you can use to change them up. A scrap piece of fabric, some trim, maybe some buttons, or brooches even if you like a bit of bling. It’s an easy and affordable way to get a new pillow without really getting a “new” pillow!
There’s still time to enter the book giveaway in the post below. I’ll announce the winner sometime tomorrow. Thanks for stopping by!

Manuela, these are just gorgeous. I love to change my pillows and I find that just doing new covers is so much more economical. Just recycle the inserts. Very creative ideas and they all look fabulous. Hugs, Marty

Love, Love, Love the red and white snowflake pillow and the pompoms...fabulous.
Very cute, it really gave them a face lift.
Totally in love with the sweater pillow!
You have the neatest ideas! I never would have thought of just adding ribbon or fabric to change up the look of a pillow. I really like the sweater pillow :)
Great idea, Manuela! I try to do this myself, although I think I may need to add some batting next change over. I love the monogram with the red ribbon ~ it really does make it pop and it goes so well with your red and white toile {which I love}!
You're so smart! Covering that bee never would have crossed my mind. It's perfect!
I love throw pillows and I love being able to recreate them. Thanks for all the good tips. Your pillows are adorable.
Nice improvements - although I must say I kind of miss the bee. :) That ribbon looks great - how sturdy is it? Would it survive a napping husband? Thanks for the ideas!
Love the pom pom fringe on the sweater pillow! It just makes it pop and looks like little snowballs all around it!
I love each one of your pillow re-do's! So creative and CUTE!

'the bee had to go'...hee! Yes, I agree! I have several tired pillows in my workroom waiting for a transformation. Now I'm inspired!
Great redos! There are so many variations out there and have thought about redoing some in my guest room. I redid some back some time ago - my daughter has them now. Have a great week.
They all look great! You have the most creative mind Manuela!

Your pillows look great. I have some on my couch that I recovered with an old chenille curtain. Love repurposing things!

Hi Manuela.
I have some lonesome pillows tucked away right now that would be great to use with a new cover! When I create the covers (also have some sweaters I would love to use as covers) I will let you know. :o)
Have a great week.
