Embroidered Pillowcases

One of the easiest ways for me to do some "fluffing" around the house is to change out my table linens and bedding. So this weekend I decided to put some new pillow cases and a new sham on our guest bed. Our guest bedroom is pretty small and half of it serves as my office which I haven't gotten around to doing anything with (it's hard enough to keep the top of my desk tidy!).

I love embroidery! It's really something I want to do more of (if I only could squeeze a bit more time out of the day!). I especially love hand embroidered pillowcases. My husband is not so keen on sleeping on them so I reserve them for use in my guest bedroom. We don't have overnight guests that often so I can foofy that bed as much as I want.

I got that pretty quilted sham behind the embroidered pillows on clearance at Target last month for $3 something! Since it's just a twin bed I don't feel like I have to get two of anything, so I'm free to mix and match as much as I want.

This is the only room where I have a more "romantic" style. The other part of this room has pine furniture which needs to be painted white (more projects!)

I was going to show the mess that is our family room as that's my next big project, but I don't want to ruin a pretty post! I'll show them some time this week. Also, some of you may have noticed the Ad Free Blog button on the sidebar. I'm not going to accept any ads or agree to write any posts about products for compensation. I will still accept books from publishers and review them. That's just a personal choice and no reflection on those of you who do accept ads. Also, I've removed my sitemeter. I found that I was looking at it waaay too much :-) I want to blog about what interests me (as far as homemaking is concerned) and that's more than decorating.

To the person who emailed me and anyone else who feels the same, I'm sorry to disappoint any of you that were expecting this blog to be like my former blog (which was all decorating and lots of projects). But I have to keep it fun for myself otherwise why do it - right? Also, the other blog was on Typepad and that blog has been deleted so there's no way to access previous posts. The only way to see old projects is if I do a new post about them on this blog. Which I have done in the past and I'll continue to do now and then. Ugh!!

Oh I love an eclectic blog!

Your pillow cases are lovely and the way you have combined them on your romantic bed is as well.

You keep right on doing what you love and your blog will be a delight for many.

Hi Manuela -
Your pillowcases are gorgeous! And I love your blog just the way it is - the way you want it. Don't change a thing unless it's time for you to make the change. I'll keep coming back to visit. You can be sure of that.

I absolutely LOVE those pillowcases. I have a couple my sister gave me and once I had to use one of them on Christopher's bed when his pillow case needed to be washed.

He wasn't happy with the foo foo either. I am, and I'm the Queen Mom. When he gets married, I hope he marries a girl who loves pink lace bedrooms. (hehehe)

As you may know, I don't use sitemeter. I do enjoy the one I have now where it shows where people visiting the blog comes from but it doesn't keep any count.

I would look at mine too much, too. I figure if my blog is enjoyed by just one person God sent my way, that is what it is there for.

I've also mentioned that I'm happy you are blogging again. I love the "new" blog.

I cannot imagine anyone telling anyone how they should have their blog...talk about presumptuous!

Love your bedside tablecape...it's lovely!

I also have pillow cases that are similar and belonged to my Grandmother. I have aprons that have crochet on them. They are jewel to keep forever. The romatic bed is just wonderful. Very nice Manuela. Enjoy your week.

Dear Manuela,

I love embroidered pillowcases too, well, any embroidery! I also love to embroidery. It is very relaxing. I just found a sweet pillowcase with a southern belle embroidered on it at the antique store over the weekend. I will share it on my blog soon.

Your guest bedroom is gorgeous and I love the different pillowcases you used and the sweet angles on the pretty night stand. You decorate beautifully and I love your blog!
Love, Paula

I so agree with Cami, how presumptuous that someone would tell you how you should be blogging!

I love your blog just like it is, I am also on a tight budget and like knowing other people are managing to live a beautiful life with creativity instead of a credit card.

And if you choose to have something on your site that earns you some income, I think it is A-OK!

Thank you for sharing your home and activities with us, I really enjoy it.

I love the variety on your blog, Manuela. I think it shows the many sides of what you enjoy and do.

You never know when you share something about your life that someone else will be able to relate to it also. Life is not one-sided, so why should your blog be?

I recently discovered your blog and like your choice to blog about what you want. When I started my blog I thought I'd only blog about decorating as well, but found that that didn't work well, since my life doesn't revolve around only decorating.

Manuela, I love this blog as much as the last one. It can be a struggle to keep our blogs a reflection of ourselves can't it? It is so easy to be swayed by comments and fashion. In the end, I started my blog to please myself and I keep it that way. I too, have turned down advertising because I just want my blog to have no strings or pressures attached. I love your pillowcases, probably because I collect the old embroidered and crochet ones too. Love them all!

I totally agree with your principles about your blog - the key word we all need to remember it that it's YOU blog - for you -and if someone find it and likes it (as I just did) they (I) will return!
I love the pillowcases and have recently thought this would be a great "winter-time-while-hubby-watches-TV project for me!
Thanks for the inspiration!

Manueal, Thank you so much for stopping by and entering the giveaway! I love your pillowcases! Girl, I just had a yard sale and sold about a dozen embroidered pillowcases! My Mom has collected them for years and has way tooooo many, so she gave me some to sell! I would have just passed them right along to you, if I had only known..and you know what, I almost posted them as a giveaway, well if she gets rid of anymore, I will let you know. Good luck on the giveaway!!! Nancy

I love those pillowcases!

By the way I like your blog - I liked the old one as well. I myself am an eclectic blogger - I post about what interests me, what we have been doing, decorating, sewing, knitting etc... it is more fun that way and doesn't ever get boring!

I love embroidered pillowcases. I've found a few vintage ones at garage/yard sales a few years ago. Makes me wonder who would sell something that some love one had made for them.

What a romantic guest bedroom. I could use a rest in that room for a few nights and I wouldn't mind sleeping on embroidered pillowcases one bit either ;) .

Blessings,

Sher

Oh I love pillow cases with embroidery! Something about them just screams home. Maybe it is because my Granny always had them on her pillows when I visited as a child. Your's are so pretty. You guest room/office seems to be homey and comfortable and I think that is the most important quality of a room! :)

Your "new" blog is wonderful. As a SAHM I love to gather ideas from other wives and moms. There is so much more to keeping home and making a home tha decorating. You seem to cover all of those basis here.
I do not have one girlfriend where we live who does not work inside the home, so finding a kindred spirit who enjoys those same things is such a blessing to my life.

I hope that you have a fabulous Tuesday,
Jen

I totally agree...if our blogs aren't fun for US, then there's no use doing one.

I don't like sleeping on those pillowcases, either...they leave marks all over my face, but I sure do love them on a guest bed ...they are so beautiful and I have a lot that my Aunt Frankie made for me...I treasure them!!

Beautiful! I really love that statue too! Breathtaking!

I really don't think anyone should be telling a blogger what they should or shouldn't be doing on their own blog! I get so angry when I get comments like that! I follow my heart and I've really been fortunate to get so many wonderful visitors. So keep following your heart and do what's best for you! It keeps it fun, which is why we do this after all!

Hi, again - I'm catching up on your posts backwards - ha!

Absolutely, post what you love to talk about. I love decorating tips, but I also like the enthusiasm which comes through your writing. I would be willing to bet that most of your readers come here, because you are upbeat and fun to "listen" to.

God bless,
Elizabeth
