House Blessings

I everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend. We did even though the weather was less than ideal. We did a little junking over the weekend and I found this beautiful embroidery piece.

The style is called Candlewicking which a type of white embroidery work on unbleached cotton. From what I've read it traditionally has used the Colonial knot and backstitch.

Anyway, I love embroidered things and I have quite a few embroidered pillowcases. So when I saw this framed piece I just fell in love. I love the simplicity of just using white on white!

This could be the start of a new collection for me! I could actually do some embroidery pieces myself - I'd really love that!

In looking around my home I realized that I had a few other pieces with the same theme! The piece above I got on ebay many years ago!

This little one I've had for over 10 years!

I'm busy getting my screened porch ready for the porch party on Monday. I really find these parties good motivation to get things done! Now if only someone would have a clean your bathroom or clear off your desk party - I could use one of those!

Hi Manuela, I love your house blessings signs...so pretty.

I am posting my first thrift store find tonight for Thrifty Thursday. YOU are the dear one that started me on this path. I never enter a thrift store that I don't think of you! Thank you.

I love beautiful hand embroidered items like these. It seems such a shame that something that must have taken someone so many hours to make could end up unloved and thrown out. I'm glad you found it to give it now life:>)

Manuela,

The embroidery/candlewicking piece is stunning. Just beautiful. My sister, Beth, did beautiful pieces like that when we were growing up. Sometimes it would take her a year to finish something with lots of detail. I am always impressed that someone could handle doing all of the tedious work. Not me, though I appreciate the beauty and time it takes. How could someone get rid of it after all of that.

Well, now you can you enjoy the beauty.

I love your finds. House blessings are so pretty. I just got to get to the thrift stores and look around. Maybe I will start looking for a house blessing sign or even make one myself. Thx for sharing. I'm going back to look at your signs to get some inspiration. Thx Manuela.

Candlewicking is very neat. I haven't actually seen any pieces for several years.

Whoever did this piece seems to have been quite good.

Good find.

I love that embroidery sign. It is simply beautiful.

I am trying to get ready for Rhondi's porch party too...if it would just stop raining! Never thought I would say that after the last several years of drought.

I think I might just have to have a clean your bathroom party now, Manuela - lol....you are too funny!

I LOVE your candlewick stitchery. Years ago I made a Families are Forever one. It's big and it took me forever since it was just in the 2 colors on an off white background. I could only stand working on it for a few days and then had to put it away for a month. But I eventually finished it. Mimi

Isn't it amazing that you can find something like that? You can imagine how log it took them to do it?

LOVE the stitching piece. I'm a stitcher and love to think about the history in some pieces.

Now, I could hold a show us your ugly bathroom day. LOL. Clean, but ugly. UGH. You have no idea. But, I doubt it would help anyone. : )

I used to do candlewicking, but haven't done it in a long time. This particular piece is beautiful.

I love how you have collections of things. I'm not in to collecting just for the sake of collecting, but I LOVE collections of things actually used in a home. You have a knack for finding things that look as if they'll "live" together very nicely.

Great job!

I do love the white on white French Knots. I use to make pillows back in my mid 20's. Sold at a garage long ago. We look back and say Why did I toss them! I love red work, I never made any, do not know why for I love it so much, and do not have the first piece. I love the saying about the Home, can't wait to see where you put them.
