Today's Thrifty Treasures & Make Your Monday

Once again it's Rhoda's (Southern Hospitality) yardsale/thriftstore linky party! I've actually become a bit more discerning in my thriftstore shopping! Before, if I knew where I would use it I would buy it! But I've recently been going through some of my "stuff" and realized I really have a lot of "stuff". So we rented a small U-Haul last week and I donated a bunch of "stuff" to Goodwill - a lot of "things" I had originally bought at Goodwill! I'm not sure where I'm going with this - only to say that I'm sort of tired of shopping for shopping sake! But I do have a couple of things to share with you today ~ smile!

Remember when I made this "Inspire Me" board? It's a visual reminder of the things that I'm working toward in my personal life.

Here's the post that explains what it's all about and how to make one How To Make an Inspire Me Board.

As some of you know, I'm re-doing my office/guest room to make it more "me" and I came across this great frame at Goodwill and knew I'd want to use it in my office. The inside of the frame is a sort of suede material. Anyway, I don't really need another blackboard so what to do!

So I tried it out on my Inspire Me board and it really gives it some oomph! I didn't even need to paint it as it's a sort of burnished silver and works really well with the fabric.

I was going to nail it to the frame but realized that wasn't a good idea so I hot glued it!

The artificial light makes the frame look gold below but it's not.

You can see a bit of the bookcase that I'll start painting this week! Here's peek at a few of the things I have on my board. You can click on the picture above to enlarge it and view everything.

I also found this wonderful faded yellow matelasse for the guest bed for $14!

AND I found this absolutely perfect blue toile planter at Goodwill last week! Brand new! How perfect is this for a room that's going to be blue and white toile!!

It was less than $3!! I love my Goodwill! I told the manager that the last time I was there. I told her she has the best selection and the nicest employees!

Edited to add this post to Kim's:Make Your Monday linky party. Be sure to check out her blog for more creative DIY ideas!

I'll be back to my normal postings now. We had a wonderful vacation! Thank you for stopping by and I hope you all have a fabulous week!

What a perfect complement that frame was for your memo board, Manuela! I love toile for so much. I'm working on my guest bedroom now, and it is the shabby chic/cottage-y look. Blue/white toile comforter for the bed. so soothing....

You do get the best goodies! And I'm so glad to hear that you had to go to the Goodwill to make a drop-off...we did that a month or so ago and it made me wonder "DO I BUY TOO MUCH?" And I think I do and I have to get better at being choosier...if you have tips, let us all know! I love your frame and board and that lovely toile tin piece! LOVE IT!

Good for you! Imagine how glad the Goodwill store was to get your U-Haul of stuff! And then you found some wonderful new things: a lovely reward for your generosity of spirit, I'd say.

Wow, you hit the jackpot with your finds. I am jealous of the matelasse, I've been on the hunt for one for the last year but sadly won't pay full price *smiles* you got a great deal. And your inspire me board is perfection, love the toile fabric you used on it.

I too have become very selective in what I purchase anywhere. It seems I always have to declutter and I'm kinda tired of it.

I love the memo board...so pretty!!

I really need to make another trip to Goodwill, just to see what I can see!

You sound like me...
I'm always moving, changing, altering, or replacing the small decor pieces in my nest. (the feathers...) With the prices that Goodwill offers us, it doesn't really hurt anyone or the purse, and it keeps me thrilled with the ever changing view in my favorite place. (Home)
Love all your deals. Fantastic.
When you see something from a distance, like the trashcan, doesn't your heart just pick up a beat or two? :-) love that toile.

I know exactly what you mean about shopping. Last year before we remodeled/redecorated our home, I went through every inch of it and got rid of a LOT of "stuff" that I just had to have at one time or another. Since then, I really think about purchases. I have left many things in the stores that before I would have bought. It really feels good to gain control of that part of my life. There will always be things for sale that I love but that doesn't mean I have to bring them all home!!

Love your memo board!

Oh my gosh, this is like the tenth time I have visited your blog and I can see why you have so many comments. You are so very talented at decorating, my husband is making me a potting bench after seeing your post on that, it was amazing. Do you do any interior decorating. Your eye for color and your creative abilities would do well in this field. Anyhow love all your cool ideas, I'll be visiting often. Thanks for sharing.

Too bad they don't give store credits for donations:>) A small u-haul? Goodness! I've begun going through the basement and have a table piled with things for a sale, donating it is beginning to sound better though!

That pretty frame is just perfect for your inspiration board! I have a similar frame that I'm wanting to make into a cork board (it's too small to go around my beribboned memo board ;-) )
