Sitting Pretty

bouquet
Hi everyone! Do you still have your Christmas decorations up or have you started taking them down like me? We leave our tree up until New Year’s Eve and then that night when we need some activity( to keep us awake), we take the ornaments off. I’m ready for it all to be gone!
utensiljar

I have few things I want to do around the house and garden this coming year. I got an early start and did one of my projects over the weekend.  My dining room chairs needed sprucing up.

 chairbefore
I painted these about 8 years ago and recovered them I think two years ago. They were really looking shabby (and not Shabby Chic)!  So I gave them a quick paint job with my favorite black spray paint – Valspar Black Satin (from Lowe’s).
dirtyseat
A few of the seats were really dirty. I recovered all the chairs with a piece of red toile that I already had. If I had more fabric I would have centered a big scene in the middle on all the chairs like the one below. But as it was I had just enough to do the four chairs.

chairbacks

It feels good to  already be able to mark off a project on my to do list!

DR

I’ve been wanting to paint these chairs white for a few years now, but always talk myself out of it. I  really do like the contrast of the black chairs with the white table. But I may just go ahead this summer and paint them white to get it out of my system – it’s only paint after all!

I want to wish you all a Happy & Healthy New Year!  I’m really looking forward to a fresh start.
The January book giveaway will be up Friday morning and it’s a good one. So come back for that, I’m really excited about it!

Our decorations are still up, but that is because we have friends coming over tomorrow night and they have not seen the house decorated this Christmas.
I love the re-do on the chairs...very pretty.
I just got done making a project list for me to work on this year!

Blessings!

Our decorations are still up. I was going to take down the dining room tree today, but just sat around then took a nap!! Not very productive!

I love the contrast of the black chairs with the white table. The red and white toile is beautiful!

Happy New Year Manuela!

WOWZA LADY, I LOVE THOSE CHAIRS!!! THEY ARE SO VERY PRETTY. WE LEAVE OUR TREE UP TIL NEW YEARS TOO..I LOVE THE LITE TREE IN MY HOUSE, I THINK I NEED TO ADD SOME PERMANENT LIGHTS TO MY MANTEL! Come say hi :D

They look brand new now! I loved your black and white toile, but the red is lovely too. {I don't think you can go wrong with toile ~ no matter what color!}. We {I} leave the decorations up until January 6th. Some rooms just have a few things in them and I may just pack them up before then. I do want to clean up my tote containers first though and put things away in an organized way this year.

Hi Manuela
I like to take down the decorations as soon as Christmas is done, but I've been lazy this year and haven't done it all yet. I like youe dining room chairs. Mine are black with red toile too!
I hope you have a healthy and prosperous new year.
Hugs, Rhondi

Beautiful! The flowers are so cheerful and fun. What a pretty job you did on them. Your chairs are amazing too! Gorgeous fabric.

Manuela, you have the golden touch! Or perhaps I should say black? The chairs look so shiny and pretty. Like you said: it's just paint. And paint is the cheapest redecorating change there is. (Except for shopping the house or moving things from place to place. Which I seem to do a lot of.)

Absolutely beautiful!

Most of our Christmas decorations are still up. I like to keep them up until Epiphany (Jan. 6th). But my husband has been slowly taking some of the trees down while I'm at work LOL!

Happy New Year!

Oh those chairs look so bright and new! Love the red toile- it makes such an impact. After our party on Sat. I will begin disassembling the house. LOL It seems as if I just got it done, but it's time for a change. I will be hanging new artwork in the foyer and in the upstairs hall. The bathroom reno will start soon, too. Ah, change is good. Wishing you all good things for the upcoming year, Manuela.

Manuela you are so talented. I always enjoy seeing what you do with your decorating.

I am never in a hurry to take my tree down. I don't do too much decorating with other Christmas items...but it still feels like a big job to haul it back down stairs.

So every year I dread getting it out and putting it away because we take it up and down the stairs. Funny how that never bothered me when I was younger! (:>)

Have a Happy New Year!

No, I'm not at all like you, but that doesn't mean that I can't appreciate the desire for freshness again such as you've shown us here with the bouquet of roses and the newly-painted chairs. (My tree will be up through Epiphany and happy I'll be to hold on for it's such a spot of cheer on these bitter cold nights, not to mention dark.

Our decorations are still up, but I have to seriously think about taking them down because I am having knee surgery in about two weeks.

Our son was kind enough to put up our decorations this year, and part of the agreement was that I would help 'at the other end' of the holiday.

I think that I better get motivated real soon!

My tree is down, my living room is rearranged and it feels good! It's amazing what some paint and new fabric will do for some chairs! I'm impressed! I've been marking things off my list too but they're more like, return book to library, fold clothes, call Beth. You have some good projects!

Love the chairs, Manuela! I've been considering red cushions for my black chairs. Don't know why I'm always afraid to try something new. I have black & white toile curtains in my breakfast room along with a black hutch so I thought the red cushions would give me just a little punch of color. Believe it or not, I have seen some cushions in the Jasper "Kroger" that were a beautiful shade of red and only $10 each. I might have to make a trip back to Jasper:-) Thanks for sharing your wonderful blog.
Happy New Year!

Your chairs look wonderfully fresh. Making a list of things you want to do around your home in the new year is a great idea.

We leave our tree and decorations up at least until New Year's. I like taking it all down on the first day of the year, except for the crocheted snowflakes in the kitchen window.

Hi Manuela! I didn't get to get by here before Christmas to wish you a Merry Christmas. I hope you had a great one.

I love your chairs. I love all the contrasting colors. If I saw that at a store I would buy it in a heart beat!

Happy New Year!

Just found your blog and I love it! Thanks for the black paint tip - my kitchen chairs are up for a re-do also.

You could try draping your black chairs with white fabric to see if you want the look...or make white chair topper slips...

I have that same toile - one of the scenes (the dancing one) framed with black in my dining room.

Happy New Year!

I haven't taken down my Christmas decorations either. My son and his family are coming down this week end so I will leave it all up for them. I'm so excited to get my hands on my new grandbaby! He turned a month old on December 20th. Every minute that I am not at work this week end, will be spent holding and loving on him!
I love your chairs! I have been trying to decide whether to paint mine white or black, too. I painted the hutch in my kitchen black and that was tough! I finally finished it and took a few pictures to post but my computer is still messed up and I cant add pictures. I can't decide if I want black or white chairs because I have black appliances too. I guess I better go with white. So many decisions...

Look great! I love the pop of red under the table and of course it looks wonderful with the black.

Happy new year to you also. I'm cleaning and dusting and moving things around. Got that "things have to changed around for the New Year" bug. I am holding myself back from pulling out paint and painting my laundry room and bathroom. So much other stuff that really needs to be done first.

Still have the tree up, but most everything else is gone.

I would be afraid to put a white table with black chairs but you pulled it off beautifully! I love the way those chairs turned out. We are leaving the decorations up untill our oldest daughter, son in law and grandbaby get to come celebrate. Baby was sick on his first Christmas!
I nominated you for an award tonight. I couldnt remember if you participate in awards or not and didnt see it anywhere on your blog although I thought I had maybe seen a comment of such. Then again, until the otherday I thought you lived in New Mexico for some reason.
Anyway I will understand if you dont accept it, but know the nomination is heartfelt and sincere so I hope you will accept!

Have spray paint. Will travel. That's my motto. Insert also glue gun, staple gun, sewing machine in there, too, because I AM traveling in the RV now (from Tucson to Deming, New Mexico, last night, in fact; today we'll drive to Amarillo where I will awake on the first day of 2010 before driving into Oklahoma City).

I even brought my sewing machine with me in my carry-on from Guam. I keep glue and staple guns in the RV at all times. Hey, you never know when you feel the inspiration to sit a little "prettier." Loved the post! Love the NEW chairs!
