A Burlap Valentine Wreath
Hi everyone! I was inspired to make a burlap heart wreath after seeing Jen's tutorial on her blog. See Jen I really did make it! This is Jen’s pretty wreath.
This is mine. I didn’t make it exactly the same as I wanted to use it in my dining room and wanted some black in it, besides I didn’t want to take the time to make that center heart and I wanted to add a bit of shiny.
I won’t go through how to make it as Jen has how on her blog. Basically you cut a heart shape out of some foam core (I had everything already which is why I did it since I didn’t have buy anything). Then you decoupage it with newspaper, hot glue some burlap around the outside and make a heart in the center and hang it with ribbon.
I used mostly love poems from an old paperback Dover Thrift edition of poetry instead of newspaper to decopauge the heart. I find that when you use text people always want to see what it says. So what could be more appropriate for VDay than to use poems about love.
Jen made a cute heart in the center from coffee filters. I made a coffee filter/wrapping paper flower for the center and used one of the three vintage brooches I found at Goodwill for the center. I’ve never used coffee filters before – they make such cute flowers!
I hung it with some black silky ribbon and added a bow on top. I like the contrast of the smoothness of the ribbon with the rough texture of the burlap.
I must say it was fun to do someone else’s project! I think I’ll do more of that. I don’t have to photograph each step or write instructions! I also learned some new things doing this project as I don’t really use burlap other than in my garden. I always call Jen the "Burlap Queen" because she thinks up all these marvelous things to do with burlap – today it’s really pretty napkin rings)! Might make those too!
Thanks for dropping by today!

It looks wonderful, what a fantastic job! I often find myself reaching for a black ribbon to finish off a project. It just seems to be the perfect finishing touch! Thanks for sharing all your projects with us.
Manuela the wreath is adorable! Love the center medallion and the black bow. ~Fa-bu-lous! :)
I love decorating for all the "holidays." Such a wonderful idea hanging different items on that mirror.
Beautiful wreath Manuela!
Do you know what I love best about this wreath Manuela? It's that it's not the traditional, expected red white and or pink :)
Gorgeous! xx
The wreath is just gorgeous, and I love the black and the bling. So pretty hanging over the mirror. Lovely. Hugs, Marty
Ooooooooooh! I love it!
That is so charming. You did a wonderful job. The original is cute too. Linda
You did a beautiful job and I like that you put your own spin on the project:>) It looks great with all the black and white toile and black furniture!
Love it - You did a great job.
I love the way your wreath looks! Jen's is so pretty, too, and the tutorial is great. I'm almost tempted to stop what I need to do today and make a wreath for my door! Maybe I can come up with something special to do. I made a Valentine's wreath for my mom several years ago and I always enjoy seeing it on her door. Thanks for your inspiration again today. ~Adrienne~
LOVING this! Over the weekend, I picked up the supplies to make one of these myself (doesn't Jen come up with the best ideas!).
I LOVE your use of specific poems and phrases!!! I agree, people always want to read(I know I sure do!). My local library sells donated paperbacks for $.25, so I've been collecting my beloved Jane Austen to use for my paper projects. I think I might have to borrow your idea of clipping out specific sections and phrases for those pieces decoupaged on the top. Thanks for yet another post of inspiration! :)
WOW' I love it! I love the dark chocolate ribbon, and the flower touch with the pendant/ medallion. LOOKS GREAT! JGG
I just love the way yours turned out and it looks perfect hanging on that mirror!
Looks great. I like the contrast of the black mixed in, it makes it look more elegant. Very nice.
Love your wreath. It's a very classy Valentine's day wreath.
Love it! Very beautiful!

What a great job, Manuela. I love how it turned out, especially that coffee filter flower. Did you use the beige coffee filters?
Again, great job.
Oh that is too cute. And now anybody that missed the original post will be able to find it via your blogpost today. You did such a great job and personalized it for your own nest. SWEET! Always enjoy coming here.
Give your golden a hug for me!
Ohhh I love it! And I bought some coffee filters this week to experiment with myself.
We're in the middle of a huge snow storm 12-18 inches on top of 18 we got on Saturday!!
Enjoy your day!

Manuela, how adorable. What fun. Hmmm might have to go dig up some craft stuff. You're so busy. Was fun catching up with all you've been doing. I've been insanely busy and am enjoying a little break before it gets busy again.

Beautiful job! I love the black accents and that wonderful vintage jewelry piece- it's fun to make something your own!
Manuela...I really love your version! So pretty!
Looks FAB! Love where you hung it.
Ps….I bought Primrose flowers today. I had to have some after I read your post. One is pink and yellow, and the other is purple, yellow, and white one; their sooo pretty! Now I need to find some cute pots for them. I looked for the mercury glass ones like you bought but the Lowes out by me didn’t have them.

Manuela, Love this wreath. Also love the colors. I'm not a bright red type of person. Very unique.
I love it!!!! Now I want to make one. Only, I don't have any burlap. I may have to go to Wally world now & get some.
You keep making that vignette cuter and cuter!
Manuela,
I love the wreath! I have all the supplies here and I need to go make one! It is something I would hang all year long. Thanks for the link and for showing yours.
Blessings,
Donna
Love it!
Your version is so pretty!
I am going to copy this now. I am going to make something similar. :)
Hi Manuela,
Your wreath is gorgeous! I love the poetry you chose to cover your heart, too! What a great idea! And it was also creative to add that little jewel to the very center! :)
I love that heart! And good thinking to use love poems. I don't really believe in Feng Shui, but this must bring some good chi in your house.
It's really sensational Manuela, bravo!
Love it! Who thought burlap could look so elegant! Jean
your wreath turned out wonderful and i think it's something that could easily be kept up beyond valentine's day.
I LOVE your wreath and the toile candlesticks in the photo! This is my first visit to your blog and I will most definitely be back!
Best wishes,
Tammy
