Updated Pictures of Our Family Room
Hi everyone! Well I finally finished painting my family room (otherwise know as the Toile Free Zone) and thought I’d show you what I have done so far.
It’s a room that we do so much in! We rarely go to movies but we love to watch movies at home. Friday has been official Family Movie Night for years! This room is also my husband’s office. It’s where my daughter and I work on creative stuff. It’s my sewing room and it’s where Maxie sleeps! So there’s a lot that has to happen in this room and everything has it’s own little area.
The Before. I did change the color from that yellow to khaki since I had to paint the whole room and not just the new paneling. I also decide to switch everything around and flipped the layout.
That same corner After. I love this red couch! This room is more “modern” than the rest of the house. My husband likes toile – he doesn’t love it like I do. He likes modern design. So since he lives here too~smile, I try to keep to that design style down here (it’s hard!!). BTW this is where you go when you come into the foyer and go downstairs.
The tv armoire is still on a dolly because I’m getting ready to paint it. I was going to do a fun color but decided that I have so much white and black paint leftover from other projects that I’m just going to use one of those.
The upholstered ottoman holds some extra throws and gaming equipment. I got it at Big Lots about two years ago.
I still have tons to do in this half of the room!
I have a few more movie posters to hang and some other movie themed things, I haven’t decided what to do about window treatments and of course I have to paint the armoire, and I need another little side table for the chair in the corner.
I also need to move on to our crafting area (sneak peek alert)!
Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you liked the peek into my Toile Free Zone! I know it's really different than the rest of my house!
Have a wonderful week!

I really like this room Manuela! It's neat having a completely different personality in there.
I love the red couch.and the movie posters...looks like a fun place to hang together! :D
Very cool and pretty too! Love that snazzy red sofa.
They had the cutest little table at Kirklands that would be perfect in here. It is half moon shaped with three drawers. They had apple green, red or black. Adorable. :)
It looks great! I love the red couch....Can't wait to see the armoire when finished.

It is so pretty just like the rest of your home! I LOVE the movie themed pictures and that red couch!!!! What a fun room!♥
What a transformation paint and re-arranging things can make! I love that you are keeping your husband's tastes in mind and decorating to suit him, while adding your our special flair! Beautiful job!
Oh I love it! I love that red couch too! And the movie posters! Looks FAB!!
Lou Cinda :)
woot. Looks like a room for the entire family to like!!! Like that pop of red... and I'm actually looking for a similar poster look in black frame for Jonny's room. It's fun to look.
I LIKE IT!
By the way, your box is on its way! :-) :-)
Hugs...
Julie
Manuela, I like your family room! Reminds me of our media room--not a bit of frou-frou in the place!
Your painted paneling looks great. While those panel boards may not be what we'd choose, they are incredibly sturdy, aren't they? And they really do look good when painted. I'm hoping that some people who think they're stuck with old paneling will see what you've done and be inspired to paint!
I love the way you have done this room. Can't wait to see the armoire painted.
I really like your toile-free zone. I like the comfortable, modern look but it still has the wonderful color that seems to be your design signature.
I really like the red couch. Where did you find it? I'm considering new furniture but haven't seen just the right thing yet.
Jody
You surprised me! It's a very pleasant room where I could happily watch a movie and enjoy looking around.
I love it! I'm not sure what I like more the red couch or the movie posters!
Love it! We've lived with dark paneling in our family room for 5 years now. We're finally getting around to painting it!

It looks great! Can't wait to see the crafting area!

It looks great! I have red sofas and I love them! They really brighten up a room and give it so much energy! Love your new armoire, too! It would look beautiful painted black! ♥
I like it very much - of course, I love the red couch! You are so fortunate to have all that great natural light down there. It is a very warm and inviting room!
wow, I would never have thought of framing movie pictures and their themes the way you did. What a great idea!
Always love your blog Manuela :)
Thanks so much for sharing your ideas and tips!
This is such a cool room!
Love the movie posters and the red couch is wonderful. The room is shaping up beautifully. Can't wait to see it when it's all finished. Gorgeous. Hugs, Marty
Your family roon is looking wonderful. I just love that red couch!!! Can't wait to see the finished room.

I love the color of your couch and the pretty contrast it gives with your wall color. I also love the light that streams in from the windows so I hope you don't cover them! The movie posters look great!
I love the painted paneling! You've made a beautiful room for your family!
What a nice room and I love the colors. I know my family would love to have a room like that. I did see that Kirlands had some real cute movie items and they were on sale not long ago.
Looks comfortable and fun.
All you need now is some popcorn!
Have a wonderful day.
I.
LOVE.
THIS.

Especially the RED sofa!
Please pass the popcorn!!
I need to get some more movie posters!
You worked really hard in this space--it doesn't even look like the same room!

Looks wonderful! Can't wait to see more. Lisa
The Princess Bride is my favorite movie of ALL time! :D
Love that wall color with the red couch!
I love the sneak peak!!
Apparently, you're a great decorator regardless of the style needed. I love the "toile-free zone."
Hi Manuela; I love how it turned out,,, love all the colors...
Hugs;
Alaura
Manuela, that's a lovely room - really like what you are doing to it. I'll be interested in seeing what you do with the entertainment center. BTW, you asked where we live....about 5 minutes from Stone Mountain park. We would love to move nearer our kids and grandkids, otherwise we'd stay where we are. Linda
Even without toile it is as warm and charming as the rest of your home:>) I love the red couch!
Such a cosy, warm room you have achieved Manuela.I love your red couch too.We have our own red lounge here as well and love it!
I thought of you Saturday when we were furniture shopping and I glimpsed a pretty red sofa. My husband picked out a sectional for his living room. Since I spend much of my time here in the garden room on the computer, I let him decorate his "man cave."
Brenda
I love that sectional and the color is so fun, Manuela! The pillow fabric, too. Did you make those? Great ottoman ~ I always love storage ottomans. More bang for your buck I think. The wall color is great. I have that same armoire! Right now it is in my daughter's old bedroom, but when we eventually move I want to paint it. I'll be watching to see how the white or black looks.
Hi Manuela. You did a great job. I love your red couch. I bet you can really relax on that. You have so much energy, send some my way. Thanks for sharing. Have a great week.
Love it!!!
I love the movie theme. It looks great!
Diane
No toile maybe, but a wonderful red sofa!! I love it and the geometrics on the pillows. It's a warm and comfortable room that I would want to spend time in.
We always did movie night on Friday too. Such a great design to go along with it with the movie theme.
Lovely room, Manuela! Very welcoming and I love the colors, too!
Hi Manuela, I love all the decorating you do -- even this toned down version. :)
I passed up a .50 cent black tole tray in an Amish thrift shop in OH and regret that I didn't snap it up. Your's are all so beautiful.
Have a great week. Tammy
Can I come over, sit on your red couch and visit for a while? I love this room; it looks so inviting!!!!
Your walls turned out great, love the color. And that red couch is beautiful but then red is the best color in the world!
Your family room looks fantastic so far! I love what you did! :) Can't wait to see your finished room.
While it may be more contemporary than the rest of your home, it's still warm and welcoming. Who wouldn't want to enjoy crafts or a movie is this charming space??
Love,
Susan and Bentley

Love the red couch, Manuela. What a great family room!
Hugs,
Donna
Your family room looks very cheerful and comfortable. You are very blessed that your husband enjoys your toile, but so kind of you to understand that a man also needs more masculine areas of the home. You have done a very good job on this room, it'll be interesting to see it finished.
Hugs, Cindy
What a great family room! I know your hubby really enjoys a Toile free space. It's hard not to add it to every room, isn't it? I really love the colors you have chosen and the posters are a great touch.
I love this room! Totally different that your other rooms, but really great design & style. I'm going to remember this for when we tackle my husband's "man cave" :)
Hi Manuela! I love the look of your room. The color is so relaxing. Now I would never have guessed this room to belong in your house, with all your toile and all, but it's a lovely room. You've been so busy, haven't you? Now sit down on that comfy red sofa, prop your tiny tootsies up and rest a bit. :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Hi Manuela!! The room looks great...so bright and cheerful!!!
What a fantastic room!! And how sweet you have kept your husbands tastes in mind, we have to do that sometimes, wink wink :) I love the Friday family movie night! I am going to copy that from you! :)
You are lucky that your husband tolerates all of your toile style in the rest of the house. Mine has definitely a lower toleration level. That family room look great though, even without toile. Can't wait for the makeover of your craft area.
Well done! You have made a lovely room. Painting the wall boarding makes a big difference to the light reflecting in there. I love the red and yellow together too. Very inspiring!
This room looks awesome and so fun! I really like how you put up the movie prints.
Great job! You make paneling look desirable!
Love your modern touch room. I've always been a fan of modern, though so many styles appeal to me. The walls are a beautiful color.
I love the movie picture/posters too. Look forward to seeing your armoire painted and see what you decide to do about window treatments.
I love what you've done with this room. It's lovely and looks like a fun place to hang out.
I am visiting here for the first time. I found you on Mrs. Rabe's Creekside Cottage blog.
It's amazing how a coat of paint will totally update the look of paneling!
You did a great job. I know about painting paneling...it's a wonderful transformation, but a lot of work.
Love this. Came here from TCB for some grand ideas.
