Updated Pictures of Our Family Room

Hi everyone! Well I finally finished painting my family room (otherwise know as the Toile Free Zone) and thought I’d show you what I have done so far.
posters

It’s a room that we do so much in! We rarely go to movies but we love to watch movies at home. Friday has been official Family Movie Night for years! This room is also my husband’s office. It’s where my daughter and I work on creative stuff. It’s my sewing room and it’s where Maxie sleeps! So there’s a lot that has to happen in this room and everything has it’s own little area.
old&New
The Before. I did change the color from that yellow to khaki since I had to paint the whole room and not just the new paneling. I also decide to switch everything around and flipped the layout.

sofa
That same corner After. I love this red couch! This room is more “modern” than the rest of the house. My husband likes toile – he doesn’t love it like I do. He likes modern design. So since he lives here too~smile, I try to keep to that design style down here (it’s hard!!). BTW this is where you go when you come into the foyer and go downstairs.
tvcabinet
The tv armoire is still on a dolly because I’m getting ready to paint it. I was going to do a fun color but decided that I have so much white and black paint leftover from other projects that I’m just going to use one of those.
ottoman
The upholstered ottoman holds some extra throws and gaming equipment. I got it at Big Lots about two years ago.

chaise
I still have tons to do in this half of the room!

fan
I have a few more movie posters to hang and some other movie themed things, I haven’t decided what to do about window treatments and of course I have to paint the armoire, and I need another little side table for the chair in the corner.

Stainlesssteeltable
I also need to move on to our crafting area (sneak peek alert)!

nest
Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you liked the peek into my Toile Free Zone! I know it's really different than the rest of my house!

 Have a wonderful week!

Very cool and pretty too! Love that snazzy red sofa.

They had the cutest little table at Kirklands that would be perfect in here. It is half moon shaped with three drawers. They had apple green, red or black. Adorable. :)

Manuela, I like your family room! Reminds me of our media room--not a bit of frou-frou in the place!

Your painted paneling looks great. While those panel boards may not be what we'd choose, they are incredibly sturdy, aren't they? And they really do look good when painted. I'm hoping that some people who think they're stuck with old paneling will see what you've done and be inspired to paint!

I love the way you have done this room. Can't wait to see the armoire painted.

I really like your toile-free zone. I like the comfortable, modern look but it still has the wonderful color that seems to be your design signature.

I really like the red couch. Where did you find it? I'm considering new furniture but haven't seen just the right thing yet.

What a nice room and I love the colors. I know my family would love to have a room like that. I did see that Kirlands had some real cute movie items and they were on sale not long ago.

Manuela, that's a lovely room - really like what you are doing to it. I'll be interested in seeing what you do with the entertainment center. BTW, you asked where we live....about 5 minutes from Stone Mountain park. We would love to move nearer our kids and grandkids, otherwise we'd stay where we are. Linda

I thought of you Saturday when we were furniture shopping and I glimpsed a pretty red sofa. My husband picked out a sectional for his living room. Since I spend much of my time here in the garden room on the computer, I let him decorate his "man cave."

I love that sectional and the color is so fun, Manuela! The pillow fabric, too. Did you make those? Great ottoman ~ I always love storage ottomans. More bang for your buck I think. The wall color is great. I have that same armoire! Right now it is in my daughter's old bedroom, but when we eventually move I want to paint it. I'll be watching to see how the white or black looks.

No toile maybe, but a wonderful red sofa!! I love it and the geometrics on the pillows. It's a warm and comfortable room that I would want to spend time in.

We always did movie night on Friday too. Such a great design to go along with it with the movie theme.

Hi Manuela, I love all the decorating you do -- even this toned down version. :)

I passed up a .50 cent black tole tray in an Amish thrift shop in OH and regret that I didn't snap it up. Your's are all so beautiful.

Have a great week. Tammy

Your family room looks very cheerful and comfortable. You are very blessed that your husband enjoys your toile, but so kind of you to understand that a man also needs more masculine areas of the home. You have done a very good job on this room, it'll be interesting to see it finished.
Hugs, Cindy

What a great family room! I know your hubby really enjoys a Toile free space. It's hard not to add it to every room, isn't it? I really love the colors you have chosen and the posters are a great touch.

Kim said...

I love this room! Totally different that your other rooms, but really great design & style. I'm going to remember this for when we tackle my husband's "man cave" :)

Hi Manuela! I love the look of your room. The color is so relaxing. Now I would never have guessed this room to belong in your house, with all your toile and all, but it's a lovely room. You've been so busy, haven't you? Now sit down on that comfy red sofa, prop your tiny tootsies up and rest a bit. :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

What a fantastic room!! And how sweet you have kept your husbands tastes in mind, we have to do that sometimes, wink wink :) I love the Friday family movie night! I am going to copy that from you! :)

Marianne said...

You are lucky that your husband tolerates all of your toile style in the rest of the house. Mine has definitely a lower toleration level. That family room look great though, even without toile. Can't wait for the makeover of your craft area.

Well done! You have made a lovely room. Painting the wall boarding makes a big difference to the light reflecting in there. I love the red and yellow together too. Very inspiring!

Love your modern touch room. I've always been a fan of modern, though so many styles appeal to me. The walls are a beautiful color.

I love the movie picture/posters too. Look forward to seeing your armoire painted and see what you decide to do about window treatments.
