Knob Appeal

I like to look for little inexpensive ways to express my personality in my home and I've found that one of the easiest is to change the little details. Take knobs for example. There are so many different kinds of knobs available these days! Hobby Lobby has some wonderful, very cute knobs especially if you can catch them at 50% off and Anthropologie also has great knobs too. Even Home Depot and Lowes have interesting knobs (some you have to special order though).

My Ikea bookcase came with some nice but very plain silver knobs which I changed out for these fleur de lis ones. I have fleurs throughout my home just like I have various checkerboard patterns. That's something I learned from other bloggers - to repeat certain themes or elements throughout my home.

I don't have a "Traditional Home" kind of house and I like a bit of whimsy and fun in my decor. You don't have to make every knob a "cute" one. In my kitchen I have three doors with non traditional knobs the rest are your normal kitchen knobs and pulls.

Sometimes just adding a new knob/s can breath new life into a piece without...dare I say it....without even painting it!

Now the the knobs on the nightstand below cost me more that the piece of furniture! I found it on the side of the road! Can't beat free!

I let my daughter pick out her knobs and she picked out four totally different ones from Anthropologie. ~(She is an artist - who by the way just placed 3rd in a county wide art competition and won her first prize money!) Had to throw that Mommy brag in there! The bottom drawer had a pull but she really wanted knobs - it's her nightstand so I just went with it!~smile (If only her nightstand always looked so nice - I did remove all her junk for the picture!)

Even if you do have a more "serious" type of home I'm sure you can find somewhere to add a bit of fun! Laundry room maybe, a kid's room for sure, maybe a mud room, family room? Somewhere!! Changing knobs really is a no fuss, easy, easy way to add a bit of the unexpected into a room - give it a try! Go on....you know you want to!

***********************

Those of you who identified this piece as a Marjolean Bastin piece...You were right! When I took it out of the frame it had her name on the bottom corner. As you can see, I did wind up painting the frame! I don't know why I didn't in the first place. Well, when I said I was going to my husband said leave it so I went along with it. Could he be tired of me painting everything? (horrified look on my face!) Nah, I'm sure it was because he knew I had million other things to do. Like clean out the fridge, clean the tile in the shower, mop the floors, wash the sheets, pay the bills...he's always so considerate.

You know what I'm doing the rest of the day...catch up with you guys later!

And the great thing is you don't have to match them all, there are no rules. And it's playful.

Very fun. Lots of fun ideas here. Good going to your daughter. Glad you shared.

It is also nice that you let her have freedom to express her likes in her room. My Chelsea is constantly puttering and changing things in her room.

I do love all of the knobs! Thank you for your input on my little chest. I have been on the lookout for knobs, but I will have to step out into the world again to find some. We are heading to Atlanta this weekend for a Braves game, so that may be my chance for a little "knob" shopping. I hope to share a finsinhed project next week!

Tell your daughter congrats on her great award! I know in your area there is some serious competition in art. =)
