Todays Thrifty Treasures - Lamp Makeover

It's that time again! Time to show your thriftstore/yardsale treasures. Be sure to visit Rhoda at Southern Hospitality for more Today's Thrifty Treasures.

I got this little lamp at Goodwill last week and a few other things. Which was really great because I had been wanting a small night light type lamp to put in my kitchen since we usual leave the undercabinet lights on at night. But it didn't work for me as is so I decided to try my hand at re-doing the shade - something I've never done before and surprisingly it wasn't hard!

Can you believe I only had this little scrap of black and white toile in my fabric stash! With all the toile in my house! I guess I've used it all! But I had just enough to do this little lampshade. I actually used a tutorial from Rhoda that she did in 2007 that I had printed out for future reference! See Rhoda, I finally tried it - took me a while!

Here's the after. I painted the base black and added some white pom pom fringe. The plate is also a happy Goodwill find.

I don't know why I was intimated at the thought of recovering a shade? It really wasn't that hard at all. Oh the possibilities.....!

I also found this fabulous frame below. I bought it not only for the frame but for the canvas.

My daughter has been painting a lot and the frame with this canvas was less than buying a new canvas. She just paints over the existing paintings - professional artists do it all the time!

Try something new this week! Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't but the fun is in the trying and learning a new skill. Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Oh, I'm so glad to read that you can makeover a lampshade -- yours turned out great! I just got a little lamp this week at a yardsale that I'd like to makeover. Do you happen to have the link to the tutorial post? I'd love to give it a try.

I love it!!! I just got one that looks almost identical at Hobby Lobby in the clearance section. Got to find a shade for that one as well.

I think it came out great Manuela. You are always doing fun stuff. Hope your weekend is going great. On the grapes: husband says, plant the grapes, then add some poles one on each side lengthwise and make a mini clothes line with a T and with wire straight across. The vines grow on it. He just fertilizes once every once a month.

Take care and have a great week ahead.

WOW!!! What a great job on the lampshade! BIG improvement.
And what a great idea to re-use canvas...I've never thought about that before.

I love redoing shades too! Now you are probably go crazy and change every one you buy. It is so great because it doesn't take much fabric. Love your whole kitchen vignette!

Your lampshade looks fabulous! That lamp would look good in my kitchen matching my "new" chairs, lol! Your daughter is very talented and I know you are a proud mom. :) I love your bead board backsplash! One of my kitchen projects (way in the future!) is to bead board the backsplash and chair rail. Your Le Fleur project came out so cute! Thanks for the info on money saving tips too!

Oh wow! What a difference the toile shade makes. Love the black on the base too. Perfect.

I'm with you on the old canvases. I have two old ones right now that I have an idea for. Just getting it done is the problem.

I love the lampshade makeover! It looks great! I went to Hobby Lobby this weekend, I checked out the price of the black toile fabric. I said what!!! Too high! I was thinking of having it in my bedroom! I got the thread, ready to make my blue toile fabric into things! Those 20 + yards have been here for at least 5 or 6 years! I bought it on sale. Hope you find some black toile on sale for your stash! Love your daughter reused the canvas. I have a picture in my scanner waiting to email to you. Hubby got to get in the back on the floor to unhook my camera, to scanner. I would never get up! I found the French plates and fell in love, the the black transfer! I kept telling myself, you have enough dishes, just buy the salad plate and make a different table setting! After getting home, I had some extra money come in, If I could have gone back I bought the dinner plate. I stayed in bed a week from that outing! lol

So darling! I've been on the lookout for a lamp small enough to go on my kitchen counter. It's not easy! Great job with the lampshade, too!

You want to know something really funny? I had bought a little lamp almost just like that for $2 at a garage sale a month or so ago. It had a black and white toile shade (which is cute, but not my decor) and I changed it to a red shade. HA!!! :)
