Hydrangeas Are Pretty!

Is there anyone that doesn’t like Hydrangeas? Don’t tell me if you don’t! They’re my very FAVORITE flowering shrub in the whole world!
Angel
I thought I’d share a few of my bushes that are in bloom. Some varieties aren’t in bloom yet.
Oakleaf
Mostly the Oakleaf  above and

sideview
Nikko Blue and Endless Summer Hydrangeas are in full bloom.

border
The neat thing about this border is that I propagated almost all of those Hydrangeas! I think it’s really easy to make more of these and it’s a great way to stretch your landscaping dollar as long as you have patience and don’t need/want an instant garden.
blooms
I’ve been working on this border for about  4 years and I have another little bush that I propagated that I’m going to move over here as soon as the blackberries that have creeped to the outside of the fence are finished!
Notquitethereyet
Here’s I post I wrote last year - Blooms On A Budget that describes how to propagate them. You’ll see some of the same Hydrangeas in this post and see what a difference a year makes!
DogwoodTree
Picketfence
Then there are the Gardenias…!
Gardenia
I wish there was smell-a-vision for blogs! The scent in the backyard is just amazing because the Jasmine and the Gardenias are in bloom at the same time! Really just heavenly!

As always, thanks for spending some time here today!

I have been trying for years to get my hydrangeas going! I have several Endless Summer ones that just won't bloom. I have now some fertilizer for them so hope to turn things around. I want to try propagating!
Man I'll bet your garden smells good!

Okay, so I have a question? I have a hydrangea and have had it for 2-3 yrs. I have only had one or two flowers and it is a good size plant. What do I need to do to get more flowers? It gets afternoon sun, is that bad?

I helped my DH plant a hydrangea shrub in the front bed, because of lower back issues I just can't cope with annuals any more. Well, DS gifted me with two more for Mother's Day and I can't wait until they make a full border against my house such as yours are...very, very lovely and looking forward to reading how you propagate them!

Yours is a lovely, lovely blog!

I love hydrangeas, Manuela! I have several Nikko Blue myself {all in our backyard} and one white one, which I transplanted to the front of my house last fall, so I'm hoping it will bloom this year.

Hope your day is lovely!

WOW Manuela is there anything you can't grow??? Just BEAUTIFUL!! I planted two Nikko Blue hydrangeas at the end of summer last year. I don't have my soil quite right because mine are blooming in the pink color (I have showed it on my post today). I need to try and get my soil right for the beautiful blue color.....BUT ALL hydrangeas are gorgeous to me!!

I am wanting to get more for my backyard bed and end up with a hedge like you have. That is just spectacular.

Oh, Manuela! How gorgeous! Look at all your hydrangeas! I'm so embarrassed! I posted today about hydrangeas - my one and only bloom.

I love the first picture with the picket fence and the flowers! Gorgeous! :)

Oh so lovely. I have a few that were propagated off of a bush that was in my great-grandmothers yard. While I don't remember her much, my aunt rooted the ones in her yard from there and years later we rooted some for my yard.

I need to transplant mine in the fall so that they are together. Such an impact yours make.

If you'd like to see my answer to your question, stop by my blog for a visit :).
Your hydrangeas are absolutely gorgeous and I love the way they look next to your picket fence. I read your other post and am now convinced I need to start propagating. I currently have 16 plants, but we both know that there is no such thing as too many. LOL.

I followed your advice for the ground layering method - it worked! even for a bad gardener like me.
This spring, I transplanted about 8 baby hydranges and they are all growing and all except one is already blooming.

Thank you, but I really can't thank you enough!

I think they are just beautiful. I was just reading where the oak leaf one would grow well in my area.

Oh! I can't wait until my hydrangea border is as lovely & lush as yours. We planted 8 shrubs this Spring, along w/some azaleas.

I was surprised to discover there is a gardenia bush out there . . apparently it doesn't like its spot as it rather ugly looking and has one pitiful bloom . . . that smells like heaven!

I'm off to read about propagation. . . thanks so much for your generosity. Your gardens are inspiring.

Thank you so very much for sharing your loveliness! I just adore hydrangeas...However, they do not adore the Phoenix climate, so I can only enjoy in pics...just like yours! Thank you so much!

I agree, hydrangeas are one of the loveliest flowering shrubs. In my area, we mostly grow the mopheads, Annebell is my favorite. The blues and the lacecaps don't usually survive the winters.

I'm planting some this weekend in my front flower bed. I hope I'm not too late in the season. We have been so focused on the veggies that we have neglected the flowers.

Hydrangeas are my favorites too..a couple summers ago I bought two Endless Summer hydrangeas (one Blue, one white)and am enjoying seeing them come back each year. It will be great when they are large and full of blooms like yours!

Love them blooming, and love them dried in a wreath or arrangement-a truly wonderful, versatile flower..yours are marvelous!

Debbie said...

Oddly enough, until about 20 years ago, I DIDN'T like them. I didn't like the idea of a blue flower. (Dumb, huh?)

Now, they are a very favorite flower. The gardenias are lovely too. A neighbor has a yard of them, and I agree that smellavision for blogs would be wonderful where they are concerned!

I just wrote a post about the smell of jasmine...heavenly. And I love, love hydrangeas - they are so beautiful. Yours are looking healthy and lush!

Bonita said...

Hydrangeas, gardenias- I can tell that you and I think alike when it comes to gardens, only you carry out your plans and I mainly dream about them. Hope to change that soon! Thanks for the ideas!

Maura @ Kisiwa Creek Photography said...

Manuela what BEAUTIFUL Hydrangeas you have....and lots of them too! I have never had a Hydrangea bush before but we planted 6 of them out front along the house. I wanted the Endless Summer but wasn't about to pay what they were asking so went with the Anna Belle instead as they were much cheaper. PLUS...we can't see the garden along the house from inside so I'm saving my money for when we put the English garden in off the screened porch. Which still needs to be built :) THEN I'll splurge on some lacecaps and others. Anyway..your garden is just gorgeous and I'm going to have to check out the post you mentioned about propagating them. I hope you have a wonderful day...Maura:)

I adore the color of these and I have a bedraggled lilac by the fence that I plan to dig out an replace with some hydrangeas. I can't wait, I always envy all the gorgeous hydrangea bouquets I see on blogs. I plan to get some of my own this year!

Lou Cinda @ Tattered Hydrangeas said...

Manuela, hydrangeas are my very FAVORITE flower! I carried a bouquet of them when I got married! Yours are stunning!! Just stunning!! A close second in my favorites list is Gardenias!! LOVE THEM!! I just planted another endless summer hydrangea outside my front door. Now, I do realize, that possibly, in a few years or so....that bush just might take over the front porch! BUT, I will just deal with that then....might have to prune it back a bit!

Gorgeous!

Lou Cinda :)

Absolutely breathtakingly beautiful! I'm told hydrangeas will not grow here. Sandy soil and salt air (and somewhat salty well water). But there are pots of them at Lowe's. Wonder how they would do in a big pot for some wonderful color? Any tips?
I've got confederate jasmine and gardenias blooming now too. Heavenly!

Hi Manuela,
Your hydrangeas are lovely. I have two lonely little plants in my backyard, they just don't want to live here! Ha! Maybe if I show they yours, they'll be motivated to grow!

I am a true hydrangea lover. :) My sis told me she had a rooted bush she could give me...turns out it was almost a full bush that had rooted!!! I'll def have to read your propagation tips.

By the way, the very first pic is my dream! Blue hydrangeas poking their head through and above a white picket fence. I have wanted that look for years. Maybe at my new house....

I left my gardenia's behind. :( Right before they would have bloomed too...I hope the guy that bought our house is enjoying them. :)

I am so sorry I have been missing your posts. I love all your wonderful hydrangeas. I must need to fertilize my one or something. It did not bloom at all last year and this year it has two blooms. It was transplanted a few years ago from where part of the pond is now and was really just thrown aside up against the house and it came back, but not blooming good.
