Screened Porch

Last year we added on a screened in porch (almost a necessity in buggy Hotlanta) and I'm just now finishing up decorating it. Well I got a good start on having half of it done!

I painted the floor a soft yellow. It's actually a stain called Historic Yellow or Colonial Yellow...somethinglikethat.

This is the mirror that I painted with that pretty blue oops paint. I am actually getting rid of a piece of furniture in my dining room! I know....most people seem to add furniture to their rooms. But it's not a big room and I don't want to stuff it full of furniture. Although this leaves me with the challenging dilemma of what to do with all the plates & teacups in that piece. So I'm putting some of it out here for now. I may sell some of it...I'm not really sure yet.

I put some of my cloches on the bottom. This buffet used to be in my dining room before we took down the outside wall and put in french doors. Now there's just no room for it. But I like it out here. This is the piece I planned on painting a bright surfboard yellow. My husband likes it as is - what do you think? Paint or don't paint?

This is half of the porch - the dining area. You can see the chairs I showed before.

I still have tons more to do but I wanted to show you all what I've been working on - well one of the things I'm working on, because the other is that I'm re-doing my dining room and building a little patio in my veggie garden! I drink lots of coffee!!

So I have the other half of the porch to do - the seating area. But I'm looking for some Sunbrella or other indoor outdoor fabric to recover my cushions. I bought some cute throw pillows at Home Depot on clearance for $7 but they didn't have the coordinating love seat etc cushions. I guess I can use a Jo-Ann coupon. I already tried Hobby Lobby but they didn't have any of that fabric at all. I'll look online too.

Above is the porch as it looks from the outside. It's really our favorite room in the whole house!

I'm putting together a post of money saving tips from the comments on the post below. So if you haven't already left one and would like to, there's still time (until Friday). Or if you've thought of something else feel free to email me or comment again. I'll try to have that post ready for Sunday or Monday. Saturday is my husband's birthday (the big 50!!) so I know I won't be doing anything but celebrating on Saturday!

Thanks for stopping by!

Your blue plates and mirror and teapots arrangement is so pretty! I just want to keep looking at it.

And then when I kept reading and saw how your sunporch is really a raised peninsula, well, I would be spending every minute I could in that room.

Beautiful! and thanks for sharing.

Your deck is so pretty, I love all the blue & white plates. I thnk I have the one under the mirror! I like the buffet as is, but you have such great taste I would say paint it if you have a vision for it. It is sure to turn out wonderful:>)

Manuela, I adore your screened porch! Everything you have done is just wonderful. You have such fun ideas!

The red toile pillow with the black check on my blog was made for me by Shelley at www.judd-home-decor.com She had made some chair cushions for me too. I highly recommend her.

Your porch is just beautiful! That blue mirror looks perfect with the plates over that server. I think the piece looks great just the way it is, but I know how it is to want to change something to get a new look. You have done a fabulous job!

I love it! I am a tea pot tea cup person and I love blue and white. Love your pots and cups. I think I would paint the sideboard the same color as the yellow chair. not sure. Maybe a little softer. Still like it. And you know what? if you stand back and say, "Ewweuuuu!" You can go back and paint or glaze it or do something else. :D

I love your porch.. I've given you an award :) The biggest money saving things I've done are..I do magazine exchanges with friends. We all get a different one... Save in an old orange juice container full of coins for my decorating fund..And i always use those Joann fabrics and micheals and hobby lobby coupons ti buy stuff. i even beg them off of my friends and neighbors!

Manuela..thanks for the comments on my blog..Your so lucky to have an outdoor space and LOOK at that yard...what a fun place to be. I do like the painted piece too. I'm not sure wheather you should paint it or not. I think with the color scheme direction you are going in you might want to. What color would you paint it?

I LOVE your screened in porch! We also live it hot, buggy Atlanta and I cannot go outside in the morning or evenings without getting eaten up!

I would leave the cabinet painted the way it is. Everything looks just beautiful!

Aren't screened porches the best? We eat breakfast and dinner out their frequently and out indoor cats just love sitting out there and watching the birds.

Thanks for your input on the Lowes -vs- HD....I have been hearing this from ALOT of people!! It's definitely something to think about prior to making a decision.

Great to hear from you again!!

What a great porch! Are you able to use it 4 seasons a year? Here in Colorado, we only get about 2 season's use of our screened-in porch. Hope you enjoy yours as much as we do ours. Sally

okay, still love your screened porch :)

...and I'd paint the server...it is nice as it, but I'd paint it...

and if you're planning to leave the mirror up, I'd paint it the same colour as the mirror...make the space seem cohesive...

and an Early Happy Birthday to your DH :)

Your porch is wonderful and I love the buffet just as it is.

Money saving tip? How about a covered rain barrel? I covet one!

Hi Manuela, your screen porch is beautiful I just love it. I love that you have the roof angled I see so many people add on a screen porch with a flat top, which I hate! I love the way you're decorating it too. Also the view is quite nice. Deb
