Cheap Thrills

I decided to pop into Goodwill on Wednesday to see if they might have any white platters (no they didn't) but they had so many other neat things! It's always a cheap thrill when I find great home decor items at the thrift store that I don't even have to do anything to! What! Nothing needs painting!! Amazing! I first found these black and white Royal Stafford plates below ($2.52 for two) and then the Rover Plate (Pottery Barn Fireside Series) They had the whole PB series but since the series is cigar related the rest didn't interest me - just the one with the dog that says "Rover". I walked around and kept seeing so many great things I had to go back to the front to get a cart! That's a silver tray with a mirror - it's just reflecting the toile.

I hadn't been to Goodwill in a while and the last time I went they were bare. I just figured people were starting to have yard sales and weren't donating. I was wrong! I wish I'd taken my camera. They had a beautiful rattan patio set, so much furniture (mostly tables, desks & small bookcases), it was really packed with good stuff. Quite a few things I looked at were from TJ Maxx!

They had about 7 or 8 decanters and I chose the three that I liked the best. I think the shapes are beautiful. We don't drink so I'm not planning on filling them with liquor. They'd be pretty filled with water paired with a pretty glass on a bedside table. What would you do with them?

I was so thrilled to find this brand new glittery Christmas bottle brush tree from Seasons of Cannon Falls ($2.32)! It's sits in a silvered glittery pinecone. Of course, now I have to dig out a Christmas box so I'll be able to use this season!

Then I went to the pillow section and snatched (literally) up these two toile pillows! The red one is Waverly($2.20), the black toile ($2.60 - I guess fringe is worth an extra 40 cents!) will either go in my window seat or my bedroom. The yellow and green toile ceramic pear I bought to put in my kitchen but it's too big for the shelf I have. So I'll have to come up with something!

I hung one of the transferware plates in between the two large plates I already had up there. That plate was perfect for that spot! I had hung the two larger plates too far apart but it didn't bother me too much so I was just going to let it be. Now I found a smaller plate that fits right into that spot! The second plate will go somewhere else.

I spent less than $30 on all this and I know where everything is going. I rarely buy something without knowing where I'm going to put it. Once in a while that'll happen but more often than not I know what I'm doing with a piece. I'll show you next week how I'll use what I bought at Goodwill.

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

Love the beautiful GW finds!!! You'll have to let me in on which GW it is and I'm gonna shop it too. ;)

I love the mirror redo you did, as well and the sofa that sits beneath it.

Since you are in GA too, would you mind sharing some info with me on your spray schedule for your fruit trees and what you use. Next year I want to try spraying my peach trees.

WOW!! You really did find some goodies! Isn't it fun to find great bargains?

Love the mirror tray and the toile plates!!!
I was looking at a jar I have today and had decided to make these pickles to fill it with (they stay on the counter...no need to refrigerate for some reason) I'm going to share the recipe soon!

You are just so good! What a delightful car load of goodies you came home with. The ceramic pear is my absolute favorite!

Well maybe they are getting stuff in. I never find that stuff maybe I go on the wrong day or maybe I have no idea what I'm looking for, probably that.

It is such a good thing we don't shop at the same GW! I would have bought every one of those beautiful things you bought! I love all of the plates, but my favorite has to be the beautiful bottle brush Christmas tree. Well, then there were the toile pillows and that wonderful pear--I'm telling you, I would have bought every one of those items! Lucky lady! You did get some cheap thrills! laurie

I love the decanters! I hunt for some every time I go out and about, but to no avail. Maybe one of these days..... You found some neat stuff- It feels soooo good to find goodies at such great bargain prices, doesn't it?

Good finds. My favorite is the Volunteers of America Thrift Shop. Their prices are cheap, so there is a huge turnover. I can go twice a week and it's a whole different store.

It's still a little too cool here in PA for yard sales. I can't wait.

Hi Manuela. You are so darn lucky. You always find the best stuff at gw and I never find anything. Hope your having fun gardening. Take care.

Like I've said before, you have a really great Good Will. And your home just gets more lovely all the time. What's funny is every husband tries to put a stop to shopping and one day yours is going to put his foot down about Good Will just as if it were Nordstroms. Silly boys.
I find glass and crystal candle sticks that I collect and a metal half round shelf with flowers and leaves that I have painted black (it will go in the extra bedroom when/if I do French black and white. But the best thing I have found lately was an Amber cut glass dish with three sections for $3. I love it and as you said, snatched it right up. Then I saw the same one for $20 at an antique store. And I bought Anthony Robbins 12 set of Personal Power VHS for $6.

I sure could have written this post! I went to Goodwill today and had to go back up front to get a cart. That never happens to me! I had great luck today too!

Like you, I hardly ever buy things unless I know exactly where I'll be putting them. That's why I stand in a store and debate things for sooo long!

What great finds from Goodwill. You must have a fabulous GW being so close to Atlanta, I never find any treasures at the GW here!

Paula@SweetPea said...

You must have the best Goodwill ever! Great finds!! It's hard to believe that you got all of that for $30.

Sue said...

Great finds! I was going to suggest a decanter in the bathroom with mouthwash but see Sarah suggested it. Also have one in my kitchen with dish soap.

Melanie@TheOldWhiteCottage said...

Beautiful things you found! On the decanters ... I posted once about putting dish soap in a pretty bottle. Someone responded that using it for mouthwash in a bathroom would make it so much more pretty than the plastic bottle.

Unknown said...

Lovin' those decanters! I have one in our bathroom that holds our mouthwash. Much prettier sitting out than an ugly plastic bottle that's too big to put inside our medicine cabinet!

Wow! You hit the jackpot! We just had a new Goodwilll open last month in our area. I've already found a couple things but they are still pretty empty. I will be visiting often though. Maybe I'll find some great things too:>)

Well you really did get blessed! What a lot of finds, but that little pear is just too darling. I can see your filling up that wall where you've hung your plates if you keep finding such wonderful ones.

You find the best stuff at Goodwill. I must go on an off day. And the one I go to is near Mountain Brook! LOL! Beautiful finds!

Awesome shopping! :) I can't wait until we get into our own house in July so I can get busy decorating things! I'll be borrowing some of your ideas for sure!

Bath salts and bubble bath look pretty in decanters.

It just amazes me when I see the loot some of you ladies come up with at Goodwill, or any thrift store for that matter. Goodwill and the other thrift stores here are nothing but junk - and I do mean junk.

Love the plates, pillows! What great finds! I love your tulips, the compost can, great! The mirror looks wonderful! I was looking at your slip cover, now if that black one had covers on the pillow on back and the seat as yours, I might like it better. I am growing tired of my Native American collection in the family room, oh did I say that! Hubby had to take a wall out to get the armoire out of the bedroom, sh sh don't tell him I am tired of it.lol All is dark, Your room is so bright. I even tried to get him to paint it a aqua to tourquise. We painted it a deep tan. The new sofa is black and with the aqua look. I forgot I have a lot of fabric I bought for this collection! I found the reciept, was $110.00 on sale! No way it will work with my new sofa! Rug does not work either for me, Hubby loves it. I have the bench at dining table, going to take off the seat's aqua fabric( use for pillows in family room) and go blue toile. Do I see a print of someone praying by a chair? So long, I been gone to long.

My first thought for the decanters was to use them for salad dressing. Maybe they're larger than they look to me?

You got some great stuff!

Wonderful Goodwill finds, Manuela! I have a little decanter "necklace" that has H20 etched on it. I found it at Tuesday Morning. It's on the decanter on the coffee table in the living room.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Oh how I wish we had a store near by with surprise treasures such as these. I would use the decanters to hold olive oil on my countertop. I buy the large plastic bottles to save money and it would be nice to pour off some in a more manageable, and beautiful, sized container. Thanks for sharing your finds! Have a wonderful weekend. - Julie

Those are some great finds! I hardly ever find much of interest at our Goodwills or SA. And they aren't really close to me, so I can't pop in often. I do much better with my yardsales & that's fine with me too.

I love the plates you found. I pop into Goodwill a couple of times a week and have found some real treasures, it's like a surprise each time. I have to pretty much go in with an open mind.
Happy hunting for treasures,

WOW you did so good! I loveeeeee the plates.I would die if I found a PB goody at Goodwill.I love Pottery Barn and their kid store too for my son's room and playroom.
I scrapbook so when I saw your decanters I thought I would fill them with prima flowers or pretty ribbon that I use to scrapbook. It makes the scrap/craft room so pretty and is so practical for storing.
I do have to say,I never buy pillows unless I can wash them in bleach.Im crazy like that, just thinking about it makes me itch.I guess that's where my OCD comes in.Oh Im not the best house keeper dust wise but my dust is my dust, kwim? Im silly,I know.
You really have a great Goodwill.I went to Goodwill last weekend when I went to garage sales,I even when to one in Franklin,tn .They didn't have anything.

I love your blog,
Kimberly

oh, I am so jealous of the transfer ware! They are gorgeous! You found some great stuff!

Just a tip...the 2 Goodwill stores I go to have frequent shopper cards. For every $10 purchase you make, they stamp your card. Once you fill up your card (10 stamps) you get a $10 credit.
