Hello everyone! In my last post I mentioned that I am switching chairs around. Well I took the chair that was in my bedroom and moved it into the living room. All the pictures enlarge.
This was in a corner of my bedroom but it really is too big for that room. The chair that used to be in the living room is now going downstairs to our family room.
Here it is "naked"! I took the slipcover off. I'd love to have a red toile slipcover or maybe just a plain red slip. Can you dye linen? The brown slipcover is linen. I think if I can't dye it I'll take it apart and use it as a pattern to make a new slip.
The red toile pillow was from Goodwill!
Here's my husband's "man chair"! No silly slipcovered chair for him! Oh no, a nice big leather manly man chair. To be fair, he's 6'2" and needs a big chair to be comfortable in. Whereas I'm 5'4" and can sit in anything and be comfortable!
Do you like my new Pottery Barn pillow? Yes, I actually bought something in a store other than Goodwill! We received a $100 PB GC for Christmas and I haven't found anything until now to spend it on! Frankly I'm more of a Ballard girl than PB one!
I love it because it looks like a vintage coffee sack but it's actually a linen/hemp blend so it's not scratchy! I know people have been making pillows with burlap and they do look nice but burlap is kind of rough. Anyway, it was only $39 so I have money left over!
Thanks so much for stopping by and taking the time to leave a comment. I love reading what you all have to say! Have a wonderful weekend!

I love the lines of your slipcovered chair, and actually, I think it's pretty even without a slipcover!
I like your PB pillow--a nice way to add a little vintage charm to the man chair :)
I agree with the previous comment about the chair without the slipcover, but I have a thing for white upholstery and slipcovers. I think I'd be afraid to dye the slipcover because I don't know that it would turn out a true red with the shade of brown it is now.
Like your pillows! I agree with you on the scratchy burlap. Smart that you found something with the look that's also functional!
I like your new pillow and it's nice that it won't be scratchy.
I also wonder if your slipcover would take dye. It could be treated with something to keep it from staining that would prevent the dye from penetrating the fabric like it normally would when you dye something.
That is a great chair. Not sure about dying the slipcover. I've never had much like with dying things. You COULD stencil a lovely design on it! But using it as a pattern to make a new slip is a great idea.
Pillows are great.
I love the chair without the slipcover! And I love your PB pillows. I think they have a really neat look to them. And better yet that they are comfortable. Your hubby's leather chair looks a lot like our matching leather chairs. Our's are recliners, but you can't tell by looking at them.
Have a great weekend!
Hi Manuela!! It is adorable! The the chairs and I'm sure your chair is going to look great slipcovered in red toile. Needless to say I loooove the pillows!! They're beautiful!
I think your chair is pretty without a slipcover!
Love the pillow!!

oooh, I love that chair too! I'm sure you could dye the linen, but I don't know how red it would get....I'd be afraid it would not get red enough, and then it would look funny.
Anyway, I love to shop PB clearance ; with the rest of your gift card, maybe you can find some great accessories at 75% off!! Wahoo!!
Suzanne
this is my first time visiting your blog and I love your style. I had to laugh when I saw the white mirror with three red toile plates down each side. I have a similar set up over my mantle.

Love the changes you made...isn't it fun to be able to 'shop' the house w/o spending $$, yet feeling like the space is all refreshed?! You have such a great sense of style...as I've said before, your house is beautiful!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Your house looks beautiful. I really like the red side table you pictured. The chair looks great even without a slipcover, but toile will look great too.
Manuela, I really like the combo of your husbands manly chair with the prettiness of everything else. Your little chair is sweet too. I like the shape and size of it. Don't know about dying...maybe you could check the Rit Dye website?
I don't know if you can dye linen, but I would certainly give it a try!
Try dying it and if that doesn't work you can always use it for a pattern! Good luck!
The chair is pretty, with or without the slipcover. I love swapping things out around the house just to change things up a bit.
I did a search and found this product for dyeing linen: http://www.jacquardproducts.com/products/dyes/procionmx/.

Like the chair. Sorry don't know about dying the slipcover. I have not tried dying anything in many years, since I ruined a bedspread.

Love that PB pillow! I think a toile slipcover would be so cute. Not sure about dying one.
I LOVE it! The slipcover made such a difference in your space and the PB pillow is one of my favs. I've been coveting it in the latest magazine for a week now :).
Hi Manuela, love your chairs. I like the first one without the cover. Pretty!
Barb
I too think your slipcover chair is pretty w/o a slipcover. I love how it looks with the cushions just the way it is.
I really like that chair! With or without the slip cover and I can definitely see it in red toile or some other kind of red.
I love moving furniture around! Makes it feel new and fresh without spending any money!
Have a wonderful weekend Manuela!
Oh boy do I love that coffee bean pattern. I'm a coffee bean lover and that really would be great to have. How come you find so many great things? Lucky, lucky. Thanks Manuela for sharing. Have a great weekend.
It is so nice of you to have a "man chair" for your Hubby...so many times I wonder how Hubbies fit in to certain, all feminine decor environments. ;D
Your chair is so nice as it is. Are you quite certain you want to go through all that? Love the Goodwill pillow on it, too. Happy weekend, Manuela. I'm sure you have lots up your sleeve.
I would think that linen would take dye nicely. To tell the truth, if you're planning to take apart the slipcover anyway, I would think it would be worth a try. But I like the chair "naked."
I know what you mean about having a big chair for a big man. My husband is 6'6". Anything that's big enough for him is way too deep for me to sit in comfortably. So I really like your throw pillows. I usually end up needing a throw pillow to rest against so that my feet can touch the floor!
Love those pillows!
I adore your gorgeous chairs Manuela! You have an amazing home my friend.
Have a blessed weekend
~Melissa :)
Oops! Oh Manuela I apologize. ;)
I have no idea why it kept on duplicating my comment to you.
so many posts to read and catch up with! I'm sure I'll just be green with envy by the time I get through...you have limitless energy :)
I think the chair is great with or without the slipcover. I like how you say maybe you'll just take the slipcover apart and use it as a pattern to make a new one, as though it's the simplest thing in the world. :) Your talent and creativity is amazing.
I love to rearrange furniture...everything has a fresh look!
I love your PB pillows ~ They're from Brasil (my home country!)
I also adore your white chair, with no slipcover. So crisp and clean.
Very pretty!
Wow, love the chair!
My husband is 6'3" so I understand his need for a comfy chair.
By the way, I heard today there is a Ballard's outlet store in ATL and a Ballard's CLEARANCE store somewhere north of ATL.
I have to say the chair looks great even without a slipcover, especially with the red pillows!
Hey you go girl! What a great post! I love chairs, love to switch them around...I wish I had one big enough for my hubby to sit in with me on his lap...he said we do...he calls it a couch! Buwahhahahaha.
Ok...love that pillow too. You sure know how to decorate my friend...would you like to come visit me and redo my house...I would enjoy the visit!
Blessings
Debbie
What a pretty chair --slipcovered or not!
As to dying the old slipcover -- why not try it? According to RIT dye company, linen takes dye just fine.
If it doesn't work, just let it drip dry, and you can still cut it apart as a pattern!
(allow for shrinkage, lol)
Cass
I third the opinions of Susan and Cass- you've got nothing to lose! Sounds like you're willing to sacrifice the brown slipcover anyway, so why not try dying it? Linen should take color very well and I think with a good long soak you could probably achieve a pretty saturated color. I'd just make sure it had plenty of room to "swim around" to avoid major creases and bunches that might receive the dye differently. In the end, if you hate it, it'll do just fine for a pattern. Can't wait to see what you decide to do!
Pottery Barn, Ballard Designs, Goodwill...I LOVE 'em all! I like the 'man chair'. I say go for it....try to dye the slipcover.
Everything you do turns out beautifully, so it won't matter what you do with the chair, I know it's going to look fabulous. (I would think it wouldn't hurt to dye the slip-since the chair looks great without a slipcover, you would not have to use the slip if the dye job doesn't work out. Love your P.B. pillow. laurie
I forgot to tell you that I love the tray full of shells. laurie
Gosh the cover looks so good...I thought it was two different chairs. I want to get some for my blue country couch that is out of style but never knew what kind to get...I think when I can get one I will have to ask for your sugestions.
Thanks so much for the flatware...I love it! Oh and the toile...the first time I have seen toile in real life...lol...i sound so silly with my country hick self...lol...but never seen any...walmart sure does not sell any...I am going to find something I can use this on also...Thanks again! Your so sweet!
oops love the pillow...not sure what ballards is but have seen PB before.
Your naked chair looks so pretty with the red pillows!
I am so envying those pillows!! Beautiful! Your chair has such lovely lines...so pretty.
Love,
Sue
Great pillows! Now brown linen might not dye well if it is store bought for the put something on it to prevent stains. The brown you have, I do not think it will dye red for it may come out a muddy red. It takes a lot of dye to dye anything red. In natural form linen will dye. You can always try it! I love to spin linen! I think the brown slip cover goes great with your husband manly chair!
I never joined the burlap parties in blogland, for burlap is scratchy! But I do love the old feed bags in burlap, we use to have toe sack races in those! Scratchy Days! lol
