Fall Decorating Outdoors

Hi everyone! I'm in the throes of cleaning my house but I snapped a few pictures of the fall decorating that I did outside. I don't do a whole lot because my husband is crazeeee with the Christmas lights and starts early in November so I'd have to take most everything down so he can put up all the Christmas stuff! All photos are clickable.

This is my wreath. I use the same one every year but add a few different fall picks each year so that it's not always exactly the same. It's hung on my storm door. I don't know how people are able to get wreaths in between the front door and the storm door? There's not enough room for mine!

Anyhoo, this is how I hang my wreaths on this door. I use various 3M hooks this one has the quick release tab on the bottom so I don't have to worry about scraping anything off the glass.

This sweet little wire basket which says "Home Sweet Home" is filled with mums, both real and faux. I'm sure I'm breaking some decorating rule by having faux flowers in my front yard! (What's next you ask? Pink Flamingos? Gnomes? - oh those are in the backyard)! But if you get your mums early there comes a point when the blooms are brown and the new ones haven't opened yet. Then you have either dead blooms or if you're like me and you give your mums a haircut, you have green stubs for a while. Anyway, from the street you really can't tell! So shhhh! No one will know if you don't tell on me!

A monogrammed pumpkin. Which was very easy to do. All you do is print out whatever letter in the font that you like. The size I used for this was 300 (you delete the size in the box and type in 300 then enter). Use some tracing paper and transfer the image and then fill it in with a paint pen, a sharpie or some paint. If you're ambitious you can even spell out a word instead of an initial!

Did you know they make candy corn in all kinds of colors and flavors now! That's caramel candy corn in the candle holder.

On this side of the house I added some scarecrows that I had in my veggie garden all summer (I got them at Goodwill btw). I always put a pumpkin in the birdbath...every year LOL! The neighbors probably wonder when I'll think of something else to do! I think all the gold flowers I planted this summer and the orange bench make it look fallish!

Hopefully my ferns will make it another month! They still look good but then it was so hot yesterday I had to turn the AC on! They probably think it's still summer. Where did fall go?

That's all...just a few touches. But you know, very few people in my neighborhood decorate the outside of their homes for fall or even have a wreath. So for my neighborhood it's a lot!!

I have a book give away this Saturday so stop by over the weekend to enter. I hope you all have a great weekend!

Those stenciled pumpkins look so pretty! I have the "brown" mums right now. Not very pretty! I think I'll get some silk ones too. It's too cold here for the real ones.

Oh Manuela, it all looks so delightful! I know what you mean about fitting stuff between the storm door and regular door. I'll go find some of those hanger-uppers you're using :o)

I love the monogrammed pumpkin. It's the first thing I noticed in your post and I scrolled down quickly hoping you'd explain how you did it. I think I might have to try that.

All your fall decorations are beautiful. I've been cleaning and rearranging and putting a few fall touches here and there. I just love it; it makes my home seem so cozy!

Come to think of it, not many in my neighborhood decorate for fall, either. A lot decorate for Halloween though with scary fake things and fake cobwebs. Not me! If I'm decorating with cobwebs, they must be real! hahaha

Your "W" looks great; I was going to ask if you hand wrote/painted it on. Clever girl, you! I have a storm door, too, and had a problem with the one piece I made this year ~ I couldn't close the door after I hung it up! I had to find something slimmer, which I did. We get some wicked windy days here, which we just had yesterday, and with rain I'm afraid it would get ruined on the outside of the storm door.

My favorite part is the puppy with the bow. :) Your mongrammed pumpkin is elegant. I have to try that.

I really prefer fallish decorations to Halloween. Pumpkins and mums are beautiful.

I love the pretty pumpkin too - everything looks lovely though. I'm not surprised that you would take the time to decorate outside too (since you have a talent for decorating).

Are you doing a fall cleaning or just regular cleaning?

I think the faux flowers with the real ones is so clever. I went to a yard sale this spring where the owners garden was so beautiful. I complimented her and she pointed out that she had fake flowers mixed in twith her real ones! I couldn't tell the difference at first glanc because I saw the real ones and assumed they were all real!

It may seem like a lot to you but it's all beautiful and I love the all the decorations.

Your home and your seasonal decorating is always such an inspiration to me. I haven't started mine so I think I'll take the 'extra' time I have this afternoon to get going. Thank you for sharing your home and yard with us and for the wonderful ideas you share. About the wreath on the door - behind the storm door - I can do that with most wreaths because it seems my little, ol' house must have extra inches between the doors. It seems we have a wide threshhold! Great idea to use those great 3M hangers. I use one style to hang framed photos in my travel trailer and they don't fall off when we're on the road. Off to get the fall decorating started, ~Adrienne~

Love your decorations! As far as the real mixed with the faux - I won't tell. :) Know what you mean about the ferns. My ferns and wax begonias will hang around til the first frost, which is ok with me.

I say...there are no rules...do what YOU want! Very pretty and I love the bow on the dogs neck. Maybe you'll give your neighbors some inspiration! Happy Fall and Halloween to! :D

Ohhh I love the bow on the doggie! There's a house in my neighborhood who has a few pink flamingos. I don't think it really works here in Virginia. LOL
Now, that monogrammed pumpkin is so pretty. I will have to do that next year. I can't wait until all the faux pumpkins go on sale!
I have NO doubt you have the most adorable yard (and house!) in your neihborhood.

Love everything you've done! Your monogram looks much nicer than mine! I need to go get some fall ribbon and put it around my dogs' necks at the front door. I hadn't thought about that.

Hello Sweet Lady~
Aaaah...your fall decorating is wonderful. I didn't even notice any faux flowers! :)
The fall flowers are so pretty but don't last as long in the heat, so I totally understand.

I also enjoyed the garden and you sweet doggie. Made me want some fresh picked veggies!

That is a great tip about the stick-on hooks. I always use the suction cup hooks and sometimes they slide. I just finished reading your blog from the beginning (took me a couple of weeks) and loved every entry!

Good morning Manuela :)

Your home looks great! I love how you decorated outdoors. The Home Sweet Home basket is so charming and your wreath too! Thanks for sharing how to hang it, I was wondering that myself.

I have short green stubs on my Mums and was also considering faux, but they would HAVE to look real. i am a snob. After working as a Floral designer I got spoiled. :)

Thanks for sharing and that Pup statue is so cute!

I haven't been able to hang a wreath on my door in several years. Ever since we put the storm door up. For the same reason you describe. But now you've told me how to do it, and I can get busy finding myself a wreath for my front door again! You're always so clever! Thanks for the info.
