Aaah Autumn!

It was a lovely 52 degrees this morning! I was cold last night and actually had to sleep with the comforter over me and not just a sheet! I can't tell you how thrilled I am that it's finally fall (although the afternoons are still pretty warm -in the 80's).

I always feel more energized in the fall! Do you spring clean or fall clean? I really do more in fall since in the spring I'm busy with the veggie garden and all the other yardwork. I guess I'm getting ready for lovely cozy days inside - nesting.

This week I've been mostly working on my dining room. I removed this corner hutch. Some of you may remember that I added some appliques to the corners and on the bottom last year. Well I pried those off! I'm donating that cabinet to the Goodwill and I know I can re-use those appliques somewhere else. Someone can have the fun of repainting that cabinet!

I moved my little black hutch over to this spot and decorated the top with things that I already had on hand.

The hydrangeas I picked from my garden this week. I hung them upside down for a few days in my garage. But they'll really dry just where they are.

I truly love the burnt oranges and red of fall, but autumn does have to be pumpkin orange! There are plenty of other fall colors out there. As a matter of fact, I was at Target yesterday and noticed that they had green, gold and brown pumpkins! They had some really cute Halloween decorations too!

The leaf plate came from Wal-Mart. I haven't been in Wal-Mart in years! I went to buy some fabric for my dining room (I only need about a yard) and the fabric section was gone!! When did that happen? The whole store looks so different!

I may change the back paper on that hutch. I found a whole bunch of Waverly wallpaper at Big Lots last week for $1.60!

It's a red houndstooth. I think I may use it on my living room bookcases if I don't use it in that hutch. I'm thinking it may be too dark for the black hutch but good for the white bookcases?

I may not be completely done with the dining room by Friday as I need some fabric to finish it. But I'll look through my stash one more time, maybe I missed something (it's possible) or maybe I have something I can repurpose! As always, thanks so much for dropping by!

What a beautiful display, I love that tray on the wall! I havent ben to WalMart in ages either. There really isnt a convenient one near-by and Target and JoAnne Fabrics is 2 miles down the road. Great deal on the wallpaper!

It is beautiful! Just a lovely display. I wish I could keep hydrangeas in my yard. The voles love them too much. They are tiny little mouse like rodent like creatures and they will eat the roots out from under the plants. I have moles and chipmunks as well. And there are several neighbor cats hunting in my yard all the time.

I just love what you did with your hydrangeas. After Thanksgiving, my sister will take her dried hydrangeas and spray paint them a metallic color to go in her Christmas tree.

Another money saving tip. I do not purchase much bottle water. However, we save all of our empty water bottles. Run them thru the dish washer. We have filtered water thru the fridge. So we refill them that way. But tap water is fine as well. Then we store them in the fridge. When we rush out the door and need a bottle of water, we have one ready to go. Recycled bottle. When the bottle is too warped to use anymore, it goes into the bin.

Manuela, are we neighbors? I live in Sacramento and those are OUR temps! If so, I will come and take the corner cabinet! I love, love, love your black cabinet and I think the apple green backing is perfect. The whole display is perfect!

As far as fabric, I often have good luck at Goodwill. They have fabric over in the home linens department. Many of the home linens are great for re-purposing too.

Have a great day!

Oh Manuela! I wish we lived closer! I've been looking for another corner cabinet so I can have two in my dining room. You are going to make someone soooo happy! Love those hydrangeas! My mil is getting some from her neighbor so I can dry them out. You can never have too many hydrangeas! They're my favorite! Everything looks so nice and cozy in your house:)

Hi Manuela
Just dropped into your blog. I love your Autumn displays. Do most American's make displays in their homes for each season. It astounds me the trouble you go to. I am lucky if I can put a fake Christmas tree in November! It is spring here in Australia but I do not have a single thing in my home to herald that season in.
I love the pic of your white hutch and all your blue and white china -I collect pieces of blue and white.
Anyway, I'll tag your blog and revisit - it looks like a nice place to be.

Cheers - Julie in Millicet, SA

I love the Fall decorations. The white cabinet, however, will be a great find for someone. Wish I could come scoop it up, I need a corner cabinet.

I'm so jealous of anyone that has their own hydrangeas. I can't grow them here so when I see them in your decor it makes me so envious.
Everything is just beautiful!!!

Your fall decor is just so pretty. You have elegant taste in all that you do and create fabulous inspiration in your readers! I love what you have done with your hydrangeas. Most people think of them as summer flowers, but you have brought right into autumn and they look great!
Wishing you a lovely weekend,

Dear Manuela,

Your vignette is so beautiful! I love your dried hydrangeas, the tray and white pumpkins! I like how you put the small white pumpkin on the black candlestick. Your black cabinet and white ironstone are so pretty!

I have hydrangeas but they did not bloom this year. We planted them in the spring, so I am hoping they will bloom next year. We are having the same temperatures here in Louisiana. It is so nice to have the windows open and enjoy the fresh air.

Blessings,
Paula

I'm going to try hanging my hydrangeas to dry. I've been wondering how to do it. Your displays look wonderful! I bought some Waverly wallpaper at Big Lots a couple of months ago, but didn't find the red check. Maybe I'll go back and see if they've got some because I really like it!
