A Sparkly Christmas Fireplace Mantel

Hi everyone! After trying many different things, I finally finished my fireplace mantel yesterday. I just had to stop messing with it after a while and move on.

This year I decided to hang a glittery star above the mantel. So I spray painted a tin star that I've had white - Ivory Bisque actually. I got several cans of Ivory Bisque about a year ago on clearance at Home Depot - you can never have too much white or black spray paint!

After it was dry I sprayed it with spray adhesive and added some Martha Stewart Mica Flakes. But that didn't make it glittery enough for me so I then sprayed it with some more spray adhesive and added some silver glitter.

The green glittery "Noel" sign is from that dollar section at Target - $2.50. and the cones on either side of it are from the Dollar Tree - $1 each. The other stuff I had from last year and I used some of my faux mercury glass.

I don't know about you, but my house is a huge mess! I've got boxes of decorations all over, 1/2 worked on projects laying around, and too much to do and too little time do it! I'd like to spend the weekend getting control over this mess but we're putting up our outdoor lights this weekend and we do a lot of lights. My husband would like our house to be seen from outerspace!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Your mantel looks great! I love the way you hung the star over the mirror and that you did it all on a low budget.

You are so right about decorating making a mess too - mine is all currently in the guest room but son Jimmy will be here for the weekend so I need to at least pile it off to one side.

But no outdoor lights on our home - we just enjoy our neighbors pretty lights

The mantel really looks wonderful. I'm really attracted to those sequined cones. Did you make those? I know, my house is a mess, too. That's my goal today - to get all of the boxes put away. Sally

Oh my goodness! So beautiful! Just like the picture of your mantel from last year, I added this picture to my "inspiration" folder for when I have a house to decorate instead of just a teeny apartment.

I love how the star turned out! The sparkles really set it off. I wish I had a traditional mantle so that I could do that to mine, too! :)

Hi Manuela -
I'm beginning to get some decorating done - finally! And I'm trying some different things this year, too. Maybe a simpler touch, or at least not the same as the last few years.

Your star is gorgeous and everything you put on your mantel is just perfect. I'm still working on my mantle. I keep tweaking and rearranging and getting a better idea.

I adore those gold trees on the end.... looks like square sequins on it.... I know what you mean I am cleaning the kind you have to tear everything up.... then put back together.....I will be looking for the shine in the eastern sky..... Manuela's house shining bright for Christmas...

Have fun with all of your outdoor lights. We've just put up garland on the porch this year. It seems Christmas just snuck up on us this year.

Wow, Manuela, I am floored!! You are amazing...I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE all your holiday decorations (and the ones from Christmas Past post). You are so talented and really think out of the box to come up with such unique ideas. I love EVERYTHING but especially like the sparkly's (sparkles, to me, say FESTIVE!)...I also love the way you spray painted the star and then surprised me by putting it over your wrought iron mirror above the fireplace !! So clever, I never would have thought to do that.
Just had to let you know how much I enjoy your blog, and that I really agree with you on the white and black spray paint philosophy!!
I'm going to post this and then spend some more time looking through you blog.
Warmly,
Tracey
